About the lab
Intelligent multimedia and distributed systems across diverse environments
NetMedia Lab (NML) is a research group in Simon Fraser University’s School of Computing Science. We design intelligent multimedia and distributed systems that operate across increasingly diverse computing and networking environments. Our work builds on longstanding strengths in multimedia communications, computer networking, Internet content distribution, video systems, system implementation, performance analysis, and optimization.
Today, we extend these foundations into immersive and volumetric media, distributed AI, cloud and edge computing, energy-efficient systems, wireless and space networking, and LEO satellite platforms. Projects such as SalmonVision apply this broader systems expertise to real-world challenges.
